DEPARTMENT OF DAIRY ENGINEERING

The Dairy Engineering Department has been a key part of the Faculty of Dairy Technology since the College of Dairy Technology, Udgir, was established in 2008. The department is actively involved in teaching, research, and extension activities. Each year, the college admits 32 candidates into its B. Tech in Dairy Technology Graduate Program. The Dairy Engineering Department offers a total of 15 different courses, including core courses.

The department plays a significant role in imparting foundational knowledge to trainees through training programs, seminars, and courses organized in collaboration with ICAR, ATMA, and the Alumni Association of the College of Dairy Technology, Udgir. Additionally, the department provides research and consultancy services to various public and private sector organizations and receives research and modernization grants from ICAR.

RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENTS

The research and development activities of the Dairy Engineering Department focus on the mechanization of indigenous dairy products, mathematical modeling for various unit operations, and a range of need-based research projects. Below are some of the key technologies and equipment developed by the department.

Completed Research Project:

The Department of Dairy Engineering has completed a research project titled “Fortification of Selected Indigenous Dairy Products With Omega-3 Fatty Acids Using Microcapsules of Flaxseed Oil Powder: A Novel Approach For Promoting Health And Wellbeing of Consumer”, valued at Rs. 42.82 lakhs, funded by the Rajiv Gandhi Science & Technology Commission, Mumbai.
